With over 40 years of experience in the cleaning and restoration industry, David A. Henderson brings his experience and training to his expert witness practice. He has seen over the years of working in the field, the limitations, complications, complexities, and conflicts that developed on projects. David learned over those years, that not everything is seen on the surface when it comes to drying out a structure and its contents, where mold is hidden within a structure, as well as the contents that the air sampling did not pick up and did not show up on the lab findings, or the soot from a fire and smoke damage had migrated to other areas of the structure. There is so much hidden in these situations, this could be from the limitations, complications, complexities that were imposed on the project and that caused the conflicts in these situations. David has even analysis lab findings that were issued and found that the findings showed water damage indicators, mycotoxins indicators, with slightly elevated spores in the structures. This alone is inconsistent with ANSI/IICRC S520-2024 "Standard for Professional Mold Remediation" and the ANSI/IICRC S500-2021"Standard for Professional Water Damage Restoration". Not only David has the certifications to pertaining to water damage, mold damage and fire & smoke damage, but he has a background as a draftsman for a scientific laboratory equipment company, designing floor plans and elevation drawings where the equipment is placed in the area. Today, David uses that experience in designing moisture mapping and elevation drawings of the walls indicating where hidden moisture could be located with the use of thermal imaging. This is where David has integrated, his college education, drafting experience, certifications, and field experience into the expert witness practice today.

Certifications:

David is one of less than 900 worldwide (Institute of Inspection Cleaning, and Restoration Certification) IICRC Triple Masters Worldwide, which is the highest-level certifications in the cleaning and restoration industry. To achieve the Master certification, a person must be a certified technician for three years, complete and pass the exams to all required courses.

Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC): 

• Master Water Restorer (MWR)

• Master Fire & Smoke Restorer (MSR)

• Master Textile Cleaner (MTC) 

The following certifications are required for obtaining the master certifications:

• Water Damage Restoration Technician (WRT) - certification demonstrate knowledge to perform remediation work and an understanding of water damage, its effects, and techniques for drying structures.

• Applied Structural Drying Technician (ASD) - certification covers the effective, efficient, and timely drying water-damaged structures and contents, within a restorative environment.

• Applied Microbial Remediation Technician (AMRT) - certification covers mold and sewage techniques  to individuals engaged in property management, property restoration, IEQ investigations, or other related professions.
• Fire and Smoke Damage Restoration Technician (FSRT) - certification covers scoping, mitigation, cleaning, deodorization, subrogation, spoliation, documentation of residential and commercial fire and smoke damaged structures and contents.
• Odor Control Technician (OCT) - certification covers olfaction and odor, odor sources, detection process, theory of odor control, equipment, chemical options, and applications.
• Health and Safety Technician (HST) - certification covers occupational health and safety.
• Carpet Cleaning Technician (CCT) - certification covers the art and science in carpet cleaning, with emphasis placed on practical application, identifying fiber, yarn, and carpet construction, style types, and finishes, soiling conditions, cleaning science and methodology.
• Upholstery and Fabric Cleaning Technician (UFT) - certification covers upholstery fiber categories, fiber identification and testing, manufacturing of the fiber and fabric, the chemistry of cleaning, methods, protections, spotting, and potential problems. 

 

National Association of Mold Remediator and Inspectors (NAMRI)

 

The NAMRI Mold Inspection Standards of Practice establish a minimum and uniform standard for performing mold inspections in residential and commercial buildings. These standards define the scope, procedures, limitations, and documentation requirements for NAMRI certified mold inspectors. This SOP applies broadly to buildings of all types.

This standard is adapted from the principles and practices of ASTM D7338, Standard Guide for Assessment of Fungal Growth in Buildings, and harmonized with relevant assessment concepts from ANSI/IICRC S520-2024, "Standard for Professional Mold Remediation". ASTM D7338 provides the foundational framework for mold assessment across all building types, while S520 provides terminology and condition classifications (Condition 1,2, and 3).

National Association of Infrared Surveyors (NAIS)

Conducting a proper thermal survey can be a challenging task and choosing the right infrared professional essential. NAIS professionals have completed accredited training and have experience completing thermal surveys.
